Where did the year go? I am still trying to remember to write 2017 instead of 2016 and we are already in November.
October was filled with work travel, a visit from Mr. Adventure Rich’s parents, pumpkin donuts, and the amazing sleep-deprived blogger experiment called FinCon.
Mid-October, AR Jr. brought home a note from daycare informing parents of a costume party on Halloween. My first thought…
“Sh*t, I don’t want to buy a costume and I can’t sew to save my life”
Luckily, disaster was averted when I realized I could dress AR Jr. as a cow (he is OBSESSED with the neighboring cows) by layering thrift store acquired clothes, cutting holes, and pinning a tail and ears on with safety pins. The extra layers ended up being quite appropriate as we received our first “sticking snow” on Halloween morning!
Frugal or Cheap? You can decide!
Cash and Savings
Most of our savings are on autopilot, but we are focusing on re-building our emergency fund after buying a house last year and stashing some cash for a re-roof (the “House fund”) next summer. In addition, we are trying to put a little extra (including a recent unexpected bonus I received at work) towards a general “Investment fund” for a TBD investment in the future (real estate? Roth IRA?).
And due to FinCon + plane tickets to visit Mr. Adventure Rich’s family at Thanksgiving, our Fun Fund is taking a planned hit.
The only funds we are actively investing in are the Mrs. AR 401K and the HSA. All others are on autopilot and just doing their bull market thing (we’ll see how long that lasts…).
No change, no harm, no foul.
One year in! We hit one year in our dream home this month and its a bit surreal that it has been a “whole year” and “only a year” all at once!
Mr. Adventure Rich and I are starting to play the points and churning game and the result is a new Chase Sapphire card for the sign-up bonus. This will help cover upcoming plane tickets (maybe the travel to FinCon next year?!?).
Net Worth November
Bull markets certainly make Net Worth updates fun. Regardless of the market though, our goal is to keep stacking!
Net Worth History
So… what was I for Halloween? An identity thief of course!
What other great Halloween costumes did you see (or wear!) out there this year? Did October treat you well?
Always an Adventure,
Mrs. Adventure Rich
